Achensee

hiking.

in winter.

The snow that crunches under your boots, the cold and clear winter air that turns your cheeks and nose red, and the radiant white of the landscape that warms nature lovers inside: you can experience all of this – and more – on a winter hike on Lake Achensee.

Over 150 kilometers of wintry idyll!

Winter hiking at the Achensee

You can immerse yourself in snow-covered winter landscapes on more than 150 kilometers of cleared winter hiking trails: along the lake, in the Karwendel valleys and high up on the mountain. If you are hiking in the Karwendel valleys, the Alpengasthof Pletzachalm or the Alpengasthaus Falzturn are worthwhile destinations that can be reached in a good hour. If you want to visit the Gramai Alm, you have to plan at least two hours. Tyrolean delicacies and warm cookies await you on the alpine pastures and huts. The beautiful paths that lead along the lake shore in Pertisau, Maurach and Achenkirch are also highly recommended. The circular hiking trail in the dreamy little village of Steinberg am Rofan, for example, promises an absolute picture book idyll, which is also illuminated after dark.

Snowshoeing at the Achensee

Snowshoeing is becoming increasingly popular. No wonder, because you immerse yourself particularly intensively in nature: quietly, quietly, almost meditatively. The best starting points for an atmospheric snowshoe hike on Lake Achensee are the dreamy village of Steinberg am Rofan, the town of Achenkirch or the Karwendel valleys in Pertisau.

Guided snowshoe tours are recommended for everyone who not only wants to walk alone, but also wants to be accompanied. The experts know the terrain and the surrounding area like the back of their hand and can therefore tell you a lot about it. You also know where well-known alpine animals are most likely to be – ibexes, chamois or a ptarmigan. Or a golden eagle circling majestically in the cold winter air.
