From the oldest cogwheel steam train in Europe directly to the Achensee ship

A touch of nostalgia

Tourism on Lake Achensee began with the age of the Achensee steam cog railway and Achensee shipping, and that was a long time ago. For 125 years, since 1889 to be precise, it has been clawing its way up the mountain, snorting and hissing. From Jenbach in the Inn Valley to Lake Achensee, it climbs 440 meters in altitude over almost seven kilometers: The Achensee Steam Cog Railway is the oldest of its kind in Europe and is still in tireless use.

Achensee shipping

When she has reached the top and is panting and pausing at the lake, a steamer operated by the Achenseeschifffahrt is already waiting, with which guests can continue the eventful panoramic journey straight away. The timetables are coordinated.
